Today I remember

People whose blood feeds battle fields

To fight hate and intolerance

The innocent put in harms way

And an innocence forced to be lost

For someone else’s fight

The human and animal cost of war

And what it is still costing

That those fought where people too

With blood that’s much like ours

And a loss not any less felt

Today I remember

Those who can not fight

Daily wars of hate and violence

Whilst others risk all to keep them safe

An endless fight but they’re still fighting

But what I remember most, upon this day

Is that war is pretty pointless

Unless you remember the lessons learnt

And do your best to prevent it
